Case Study One

Abby is a 30 year-old woman with genital herpes who initially came to my office 3 years ago. She contracted the herpes virus when she was in her early twenties, and has experienced frequent outbreaks over the past 6 years. The outbreaks tend to occur especially when she is under stress, tired, emotionally upset, coming down with a cold, or when she is pre-menstrual. The constant recurrence of itching and soreness also make it more difficult for her to concentrate at work, she also felt fatigue and depressed. Genital Herpes in the United States

Genital herpes is an infectious disease that is caused by the infection of herpes simplex virus in virginal area. In the United state, approximately one in five 30 years old female has the herpes simplex virus.

Genital herpes is transmitted through the skin to skin sexual contact.

Even though genital herpes is not considered a life threatening disease, Herpes attacks are excruciatingly painful and if it left to be treated, the herpes virus can affect other parts of the body, such as eyes, fingers, skin, and in rare case the brain and internal organs. The patient will suffer an average 2 to 4 recurrence on a yearly basis. It is estimated that 20% of adults in America have genital herpes.

The medicine for treating herpes are Zovirax(Acyclovir) , Valtrex ( Valacyclovir) and Famvir ( Famciclovir) which can be taken internally or applied on the lesion. Those medicines is not always efficient especially for those patients who suffered from chronic genital herpes infection.

Chinese Medicine for Treating Genital Herpes

Fortunately Chinese medicine offers a very efficient treatment in killing the herpes virus, eliminating the skin rash or lesion, and reducing the pain. Further more, Chinese medicine will also focus on boost immunity and strengthen the constitution to prevent the herpes recurrence. In Chinese medicine, genital herpes is considered caused by heat and dampness which reside in liver and gall bladder meridian and its organs, so the first step is to remove the heat and dampness from the liver and gall bladder, the leading Chinese herbal formula is damp heat cleansing- Long dan Xie gan Tang. 2. Do not over stress yourself, keep physical active to manage the stress. Yoga , meditation , acupuncture and massage are few options to reduce stress. Make sure you sleep well. Take vitamin B complex which helps cope with stress.
3. Avoid very hot and spicy food, avoid sugar and greasy food. Eat more green leafy vegetable.
